Czechoslovak Independence Day in 2017

It is a public holiday today in Czech Republic - supermarkets are all closed and people celebrate their Independence Day. This is my 4th time taking photos of military procession, ceremony and fireworks. For some reason I utterly forgot the day and was so unprepared to shoot.

Due to the construction of streets downtown, the military procession route was changed, which I didn't know. I didn't take tripod with me. I got to hold camera in every possible ways you can come up with to stabilize camera. Hence I am quite reluctant to upload photos of fireworks this time but I own this photoblog, so why not.

Happy Independence Day!!!

Czechoslovak Independence Day in 2016 Part Two

This is a part 2 entry of Czechoslovak Independence day.

This was my first time shooting fireworks in the rain. Thanks to the weatherproof function of my camera and lenses, I had no hesitation to reveal camera gadgets in the rain but the biggest problem arises when the lens glass surface gets wet by raindrops....

All round bokeh (=blur) resulted from raindrops on the lens surface, grrrrr.

The ceremony was solemn and went on regardless of rain.

The photo below shows how heavy the rain was during the ceremony.

At last, I would like to share a crazy video demonstrating the reliability of the weatherproof function of my camera, Olympus OM-D EM-5!!!

Czechoslovak Independence Day in 2016

This is getting to be my annual ritual ceremony of taking photos of the military procession and fireworks on 28th October in Olomouc...

It is a public holiday in the Czech Republic. Rather, it's Independence day. On October 28th in 1918 Czechoslovakia declared its independence from Austro-Hungarian Empire.

As always, the military procession started at 17:40, leaving from Horní náměstí and heading for Žižkově náměstí where the ceremony took place.

Similar to last year, a young blonde boy soldier took the lead this year...

Happy Independence Day!

Czechoslovak Independence Day in 2015 Part Two

This is part two entry of the Czechoslovak Independence Day featuring ceremony and fireworks.

After the military procession with marching orchestra bands, they arrived at Žižkově náměstí.

The ceremony was solemn and touching...

You may find participants, especially kids, holding lanterns.

Then it's time for fireworks!!!

It's a lot of fun taking photos of fireworks because my camera, Olympus OM-D EM-5, has a very cool function called "Live Bulb" Please watch the video below if you're interested in.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Czechoslovak Independence Day in 2015

October 28th is a public holiday in the Czech Republic. Rather, it's Independence day. On October 28th in 1918 Czechoslovakia declared its independence from Austro-Hungarian Empire.

In Olomouc, starting at 17:40 there was a military procession leaving from Horní náměstí and headed for Žižkově náměstí where the ceremony took place.

This is my 3rd time taking photos of a military procession. Until last year female soldier led the procession, however, this is not the case this year...

In 2013, there were cheer girls in the procession but all I could see were male soldiers this year...

That's how it was in 2013

Something happened??? Rules changed???

Happy Independence Day!
